There is no prop firm without rules, so "no hidden rules" can only mean one thing: every rule that can end an account or cut a payout is published before you pay. This guide defines the 6 rules that most often surprise funded traders, shows which of 8 firms publish them in a first-party source we captured between 2026-09-29 and 2026-10-14, and lists the gaps you still need to check yourself.
- A rule is "hidden" when it can breach an account or deny a payout but is missing from, or buried below, the product and pricing page you buy from.
- The 6 usual suspects are consistency, news trading, overnight and weekend holding, lot or position caps, IP and copy-trading rules, and discretionary payout reviews.
- Of the 8 firms below, every one restricts at least one of these in writing; the difference is how specific and how visible the published rule is.
- "No consistency rule" marketing is not the same as a published 0%: City Traders Imperium says "no hidden consistency requirements" but publishes no percentage either way.
What counts as a hidden rule?
We count a rule as hidden when it meets 2 conditions: it can close the account, void profit, or block a payout request, and it is not stated with a number or a clear trigger on the product page, the rules page, or the help-centre article for that exact product. A rule that exists only in the Terms and Conditions, only in a payout email, or only for one product variant is the most common pattern.
1. Consistency rules
A consistency rule caps how much of your profit can come from your best day. It usually blocks a payout rather than breaching the account, which is why traders discover it at withdrawal time. Published examples from our captures: Topstep's Trading Combine uses a 55% consistency target, and its XFA Consistency path requires a best day of no more than 40% of total net profit; FTMO's 1-Step uses 50%; FundingPips' 2 Step Standard uses 35% on its On Demand and Monthly routes; Maven's Instant account uses 20%. Our consistency rule guide explains the formulas.
2. News trading windows
Most firms allow news trading in principle but restrict a window around high-impact releases, and the window and penalty differ. Alpha Capital restricts execution in the 5 minutes before and after relevant high-impact news on Pro, One, Three and Direct. FundingPips' 1 Step Flex allows news trading during the evaluation, but on the Master Account profits from trades opened or closed within 5 minutes of high-impact news may be deducted. Maven bans opening or closing trades 2 minutes either side of a red-folder release. On FundingPips Zero, a news-window violation is a hard breach.
3. Overnight and weekend holding
Holding rules often change between the evaluation and the funded stage. FundingPips allows overnight and weekend holding during evaluations, but on 1 Step Flex Master Accounts open trades are closed by the system each day unless you bought the Swing add-on. Topstep's captured products do not allow overnight or weekend holding. FTMO restricts both. Bright Funded, FundedNext Stellar products and City Traders Imperium allow both on the products we captured.
4. Lot and position caps
Caps are rarely on the pricing page. FundingPips' 1 Step Flex page enforces a 20-lot maximum per trade at platform level and a separate 1-lot-per-click limit on crypto (checked 2026-10-14). Maven limits funded withdrawals to $10,000 per 30-day rolling cycle per trader, and above $5,000 of profit no single day or trade may exceed 50% of the payout-cycle profit (Maven FAQ, checked 2026-10-14).
5. IP, device and copy-trading rules
Maven requires your IP address to stay in the same geographical region throughout and may ask for proof, such as travel tickets, if it changes. Maven also prohibits copying trades from another individual and does not permit EAs on any platform. Alpha Capital allows copy trading only with own-account verification and not on cTrader, DXtrade or TradeLocker. These rules matter most if you travel, use a VPN, or run the same strategy across firms.
6. Discretionary payout reviews
Some firms reserve the right to review a strategy before paying. OFP Funding's help centre says payouts "can be subject to additional analysis at any moment" and are paid only "when a real trading strategy is present" (checked 2026-10-14). Maven requires a risk interview after $5,000 in payouts. FundingPips' 1 Step Flex has a striking system: a 2nd warning on a losing trade idea halves the reward split, and a 4th breaches the account. None of these is hidden if you read the rules page, but none appears on a pricing card either.
Which prop firms disclose their rules clearly?
The table below shows what each firm's first-party product source says on the dates we captured it. "Restricted" means the firm publishes a specific limit; "Not published" means the captured source did not state the rule either way, which is a gap to check, not a permission. The consistency column shows published percentages for the products that have one.
| Firm (capture date) | Consistency | News | Overnight | Weekend | EAs | Copy trading |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Capital (2026-10-06) | 40% on on-demand routes; 15% on Alpha Direct; bi-weekly unverified | Restricted | Allowed (Direct: not published) | Allowed on One and Swing; restricted on Pro; not allowed on Direct | Restricted (Direct: not allowed) | Restricted |
| Bright Funded (2026-09-29) | None published | Restricted | Allowed | Allowed | Restricted | Restricted |
| City Traders Imperium (2026-10-14) | No percentage published; Direct Funding says "No Consistency Rules" | Allowed | Allowed | Allowed | Allowed on 1-Step; restricted on others | Not published |
| FTMO (2026-09-29) | 50% on 1-Step | Restricted | Restricted | Restricted | Restricted | Not published |
| FundedNext (2026-09-29) | None published on Stellar products | Restricted | Allowed | Allowed | Restricted | Restricted |
| FundingPips (2026-09-29) | 35% on 2 Step Standard (On Demand/Monthly); 15% on Zero | Restricted (Zero: not allowed) | Allowed | Restricted (Zero: not allowed) | Restricted | Restricted |
| Maven (2026-10-14) | 20% on Instant and Buy Now Pay Later; 15% on Mini | Restricted (allowed on Instant, Buy Now Pay Later and Prediction Markets) | Not published | Allowed | Not allowed | Not allowed |
| Topstep (2026-10-06) | 55% Combine target; 40% on XFA Consistency | Restricted | Not allowed | Not allowed | Restricted | Restricted |
How to read it. No firm here is "no rules". The clearest disclosers are the ones that attach a number and a consequence to each rule on the product's own page: Topstep publishes consistency, holding and payout-cap rules per product, FundingPips publishes consistency, holding and lot caps per product, and Maven publishes its news window, IP, caps and payout-interview triggers in one FAQ. The weakest disclosures are blanks: City Traders Imperium markets "no hidden consistency requirements" but publishes no figure, Alpha Capital's bi-weekly consistency is unverified, and several firms do not state their copy-trading policy on the product source.
A 6-point check before you buy
- Consistency: find the percentage and whether it applies to the evaluation, the funded stage, or both.
- News: find the window in minutes, which releases count, and whether a violation breaches the account or only deducts profit.
- Holding: check overnight and weekend permission for the funded stage, not only the evaluation, and whether an add-on is required.
- Caps: look for maximum lots per trade, per-click limits, and withdrawal caps per cycle.
- IP and copying: check VPN, travel, EA and copy-trading policies if you trade from more than one place or run the same strategy elsewhere.
- Payout review: look for strategy reviews, interviews, warning systems, and whether a breach of a soft rule cuts the split.
If a rule is not stated, ask support in writing before paying and keep the reply. For cost comparisons see the cheapest prop firms ranking, and for holding rules the swing trading prop firms list.
FAQ
Is there a prop firm with no hidden rules?
There is no prop firm with no rules. A firm has no hidden rules when every rule that can breach an account or deny a payout is published for the exact product before checkout. Among the 8 firms above, Topstep, FundingPips and Maven publish the most specific numbers; check the product page and help centre for whichever firm you choose.
Which prop firms have no consistency rule?
Few firms publish an explicit "none". City Traders Imperium's Direct Funding page says "No Consistency Rules", and in our E8 Markets review E8 Pro is recorded with no consistency rule. A blank field on a product page is not the same as a published zero, so confirm it in writing.
What is the most common hidden prop firm rule?
Consistency rules and funded-stage holding restrictions cause the most surprises, because both often differ between the evaluation and the funded account and usually surface at payout time rather than at checkout.
Can a prop firm deny a payout after I pass?
Yes, if its terms allow it. OFP Funding says payouts are paid only "when a real trading strategy is present", and Maven requires a risk interview after $5,000 in payouts. Read the payout section of the terms, not only the pricing page.
